I was twenty-four years old, physically fit, and my ticker worked. But I knew what it was like to be dying.
Home was the best kind of heartwarming hurt / comfort, and I loved seeing Dominic finding his footing and safety together with Adrian!
Dominic was exactly the kind of character that just automatically moves into my heart, and I ended up reading this in one go as I couldn’t put it down. He was struggling, trying to build a better future for himself and his daughter without any proper resources. He and Adrian met by chance, and Adrian being the complete sweetheart that he was, couldn’t help but offer Dominic a place to land.
It took time for Dominic to trust Adrian, and their friendship built slowly. Adrian was great with Thea, Dominic’s daughter, and I adored how they became a little family without really meaning to at first. Dominic’s past was complicated and after spending a lot of years in survival mode, attraction and love was low on his radar. Being in close proximity with Adrian led to some revelations though, and it was both fun and cute how clueless Dominic was when it came to his own feelings.
There was a bit of uncertainty and lack of communication, but I didn’t mind it considering Dominic’s background. Adrian was maybe a little too patient, but it was understandable that he let Dominic set the pace and boundaries once they started being intimate. They were so sweet together and the hurt / comfort just felt like a soft and warm hug. I also loved the parts with Billy, they really added an emotional punch to the story, and it was a relief to know that Dominic had someone in his corner.
Home was such a heartfelt read, with Adrian being a total cinnamon roll character while Dominic had more of a feral alley cat energy to him, at least initially. I adored seeing the three of them becoming a little family together, and Dominic and Thea both having the chance to heal and thrive.
“It’s difficult to explain, but you’re my home. I’ll do my best to never lose it.”
