Samuel and Mars were such a sweet couple, and their story was a great way to wrap up the Station 69 series!
I’ve really enjoyed the suspense and the arsonist plot in this trilogy, and I was very eager to find out who the perpetrator had been all this time. I liked how the author build the anticipation and suspense, and seeing things from the fire chief’s perspective gave some further insights into the investigation and fires.
Samuel and Mars were the kind of couples that I didn’t think would work; Samuel was very down to earth and sticking to his routines, while Mars was spiritual and more of a free spirit. They were very different, but they also complemented each other. Mars had been having a crush on Samuel for quite a while, and with the forced proximity things sparked between them.
I found it adorable how Samuel instantly started to take care of Mars, making him breakfast every morning and ensuring that he had everything he’d need while staying at his house. The Daddy in him was not subtle at all, but it was also easy to see how Mars thrived with a Daddy in his life. They were good for each other and I really liked them as a couple.
Hot Zone was a great conclusion to the 69 Station trilogy, and I’ve very much enjoyed the suspense and anticipation throughout! It was overall a sweet story with a mild Daddy / boy dynamic, that managed to stay on the lighthearted side despite dealing with some more serious topics. Jacki James writes the small town and found family tropes so well, and I look forward to see what she’ll write next!
