A soft noise filled the air around them, almost too quiet for Ore’s ears to pick up. It took him a second to realize what it was, and then his damn heart melted, all his frustration and bruised feelings drifting away.
Cash was purring. For him.

Tempest was a really promising start to the Silver Oak Pack series!

I’m a total sucker for hurt / comfort and I love the way Kiki Clark writes it, especially in combination with fated mates. Cash and Ore’s story felt close to The Mobster’s Mate, as they shared a few tropes and some plot similarities: magic affecting health, amnesia and forced proximity, for example. I adored both stories, it was so sweet seeing the more caretaking side of the MCs, and how they slowly realised that they’d had their fated mates practically dropped into their laps.

Cash and Ore’s romance was on the slow burn side, the first part of their story had a lot of setting and information, as well as inner monologues, in order to set up the story. The pace was great though, considering how the MCs met and Ore’s condition. The way Ore instantly felt safe around Cash melted my heart, I can’t resist stuff like that and I just adore the whole fated mates trope. Their feelings were very present and well written, I feel like sometimes the third person narrative can be a bit distancing, but that wasn’t the case here at all.

I loved Cash and Ore together, they were a somewhat unexpected pairing to me (panther and bird), but they worked well together and there were so many cute moments between them! I was expecting a little more about Cash’s past and his issues with fated mates, but I can also see how his feelings for Ore might have played a part in changing his mind. Their size difference was really hot, and the initial tension between them was great – they both spent a little time pining for each other and it was quite endearing to read!

Tempest was overall a great and enjoyable read, and I loved Cash and Ore together and the changes it brought to the pack. I’m definitely looking forward to spending more time together with these shifters and their pack!
