My mom’s voice enters my head then, a whisper of memory from when I was seven. “Not everyone is going to understand you, Ellis. But it’s not your job to make them.”
Lucky has always heard me. From the very first time we met, he’s heard me. He knows me, unlike any other.
I honestly don’t know how to write a review that will do justice to this story. To Catch a Firefly was an epic romance – brilliant and beautiful, full of heart wrenching moments and endless pining.
I’m pretty sure I left my heart somewhere in this story, Emmy Sanders truly outdid herself with this book! Ellis and Lucky’s story was remarkable, and I rooted so hard for them to finally see what had been in front of them for most of their lives. I was totally captivated from the first chapter – the way their friendship was portrayed was precious, and I could feel the love they had for each other through the pages. These two boys both meant the world to each other, even when it hurt.
And oh my, it really did hurt. I cried so much during their story, and the level of pining made my heart all achy. Ellis and Lucky were the ultimate friends to lovers, and they are the kind of characters that will stay with me for a long, long time. I loved the way they understood each other, Lucky was so patient and caring, and Ellis… there was such a depth to his character. He loved BIG, and I loved his calm and thoughtfulness. He and Lucky were so connected to each other and their chemistry was really intense.
To Catch a Firefly almost read like poetry – Emmy Sanders’ writing was absolutely gorgeous here, and I loved every page of it. It was a heartfelt and emotional story, with characters that felt authentic and real. I’m completely in awe of Ellis and Lucky’s romance. The layers of the story. The pull and chemistry between them. Their friendship and shared history. The pining… Bring some tissues and start reading, because I really can’t recommend this one enough!
I was ten years old when I met Lucky. I knew it then, and I know it now. He’s a firefly. Luminous and wild. He was never meant to be trapped. Not here and not with me.
