The Art of Husbandry by Jay Hogan

Today we’re taking a little look inside of The Art of Husbandry by Jay Hogan, the first book in the Mackenzie Country series.

If you’re anything like me, you’ll definitely need tissues for this one. Gil’s grief and trauma was heart wrenching and heavily present throughout the story, and I felt so much for him. It was a beautiful story, with some fantastic hurt / comfort, all very well written and emotional.

There was so much tenderness and warmth in this story, and I loved how smitten Gil and Holden were with each other. These two were so sweet, but had a lot to overcome before getting their HEA. A truly amazing story – and I can’t wait to go back to Mackenzie Country again!

How it begins…

“I’m sorry I forgot Hannah’s present.”
I pulled away from the kerb and merged like a zip into the stream of school pickup traffic. It was Callie’s best friend’s birthday party and I’d dropped the ball.

Tropes

  • age gap
  • hurt / comfort
  • forced proximity
  • opposites attract
  • small town

Second by second, Holden was forcing my body to remember, forcing it to break that dusty seal of grief. To bring me back to life without even trying, without even knowing what he was doing, and in a woolshed for fuck’s sake.

What to expect

  • instant attraction
  • grief / healing after loss
  • realistic and emotional
  • sheep farming
  • amazing setting / landscape
  • passion and steam
  • hard earned HEA

“I’ve never felt this before and it scared the shit out of me as well, but not as much as not telling you does. I’d rather tell you and lose you than have you leave without knowing the place you’ve carved out in my heart.”
